SLIDELL – When Allie Walker and her entrepreneur dad Chuck Walker needed to come up with a name for their new business in Slidell, they couldn’t have done better than “The Sweetz Shop,” which is now open for business at 2975 Gause Blvd.
That’s because the newest addition to the business world in Slidell has just about any “sweets” you can imagine—and plenty that you never even thought of.
Allie grew up in a family with a father who has always been looking for the next good business idea. He certainly has had his share of success with fitness centers, health clubs, child care centers, coffee shops, snowball stands and more.
With Allie heading for graduation from Southeastern Louisiana University earlier this year with her Business Management degree, it was clear she would follow in her dad’s footsteps with some kind of business venture.
After working in several customer service businesses such as coffee shops and snowball stands, the idea was born for a sweet shop in Slidell that offered virtually every sweet treat you could imagine—and then some.
Sure, Slidell has plenty of stores that sell candy or ice cream, but The Sweetz Shop goes light years past those businesses with more sweet items than you would believe.
How is this for a lineup:
–Homemade Popz.
–Homemade Ice Cream.
–Baked Goods.
–Shaved Flavored Ice.
–Soft Serve Blendz.
–Sweetz Shop Popz.
–Mexican ice cream popsicles.
–Snowballs.
–Sweet Life Baker King Cakes.
–Chocolate Flavored Fruits.
–Caramel Apples.
–Macaroons.
–Sundaes.
–Tropicana Ice Cream.
–Waffle Sticks.
–Flavored Popcorn.
WHEW!
And as the commercials say, “and there’s more….”
The proverbial cherry on top can be found when you walk in the front door and see an incredible Candy Room stocked with over 100 different kinds of candy, from today’s favorites to the old-school candy from your childhood days.
“We didn’t want to open your typical sweets store,” Allie noted. “When we started talking about it, we wanted this store to have more and more and more—not just a few basic sweets. There is certainly something for anyone, no matter what your sweet tooth wants.”
Chuck echoed those thoughts after the combined thinking between father and daughter resulted in a most unique new business for Slidell.
“We wanted to create something that was a hybrid between nostalgic and modern. We understand that there are many options and business vying for your sweet tooth dollar, so we wanted neighborly, great flavor without being overly inventive, as well as incorporate the things from our past that we love,” Chuck explained.
Perhaps one of the most unique items you will find at the Sweetz Shop is the wide variety of homemade ice cream and popsicles, all that are made right in the kitchen on site, along with dozens of other sweet treats.
“The best way I would describe what we are offering Slidell is ‘different and unique,’” Allie said. “And for me, right out of college, it’s exciting to start this new journey. All we ask is for the locals to give us a try. I believe they will come back once they see what we have here.”
The Sweetz Shop is open from 1 to 9 p.m. on Monday through Friday, then 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
