PEARL RIVER – It was a tough night for both the Rebel girls and boys as they ran into the Salmen Spartans who have been on a roll lately with both teams falling in District 8-4A action.
The girls struggled mightily in the first period allowing Salmen to go on a 12-0 run in the first period; an 8-0 run in the third period and a 27-0 run in the fourth period.
The Lady Rebels also committed 41 turnovers while the Spartans had only 12.
The first period run ended when Pearl River’s Camryn Lyons hit a three-pointer and Kydra Henderson hit a bucket to make it 19-5 after one.
Ashanti Eden led the Spartans urge with 12 points.
It was closer in the second as Sarah Davis hit two treys for the Rebels while Jealinn SanNicholas hit seven to make the halftime score 34-15.
But that 27-0 shutout in the third period crushed any hopes the Rebel girls had as the Spartans went up 61-15 and went on to win 71-17.
Davis led the Lady Rebels with six points followed by Lyons with five.
Jordan Ingram, Henderson and Jennifer Dickmeyer each had two points for Pearl River.
Eden paced the Lady Spartans with 20 points while Jaylen Huderson pumped in 17.
Also scoring for Salmen were Darreon Pratt and Jayla Faciane with six each; Allie Batiste with five and Arianna Cooks and Jazmine McKain with four.
The Lady Spartans now stand at 16-10 for the season and 5-1 in district play.
The Lady Rebels fall to 5-14 and 0-6 in the district.
With six points by Mike Young, and four from Keith Sandrock, the Spartans jumped out early to outscore the Rebels 20-9 in the first period.
Salmen stepped it up even more in the second period as Sandrock continued with a hot hand scoring eight and Tyrone Adams hitting five. Carlos Simmons three-pointer was the only score for the Rebels as the first half ended with Salmen on top 35-12.
Both teams scored 10 in the third but the final period saw Salmen blowout the Rebels 30-0 to finalize the score at 75-22.
Brock Simon led the Rebels with seven points.
Sandrock led the Spartans with 16 points followed by Deivea Faciane with 11.
Young finished with 10 while Reese Klein and Kyran Donaldson each had nine.
The Rebels fall to 4-14 overall and 0-3 in league action.
Salmen improves to 15-7 and 4-0.
