PJP tennis has tough match vs. FHS

SLIDELL — The Pope John Paul girls tennis team defeated Fontainbleau, 4-1.
Leading the way for the Lady Jags was the No. 1 doubles team with a two-and-a-half hour match, seniors Elizabeth Calamari and Hannah Malus with their toughest match of the season. However, they won 7-5, 6-7 (7-4), (10-8).
Also winning was line two doubles, senior Monica Jenson and junior Meme DeLucca. They lost the first set 7-5, butbounced back taking an early lead in the second set to win, 6-4. They then closed out the supertiebreak with a (10-6) win.
PJP’s line three doubles also stepped up big with sophomore Lizzy Favre and junior Sam Tatum. They won against Fontainbleau in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
On the boys side, Fontainbleau won 3-2 over PJP. The last match was No. 2 doubles with a supertiebreak, and Fontainbleau came out on top with a (10-7) win.
Both PJP boys and girls are now 6-1 overall.
Prior to the Fontainebleau match, PJP?took on Lakeshore, and the PJP boys won the three doubles lines to beat Lakeshore. Leading the way at No. 1 doubles was freshman newcomer Blake Everard and senior four-year player Luie Martinez.

BOYS
In singles one, PJP’s Arjun Singh defeated FHS’ Alex Palacio, 6-3, 6-3.
In singles two, FHS’ John Deeble defeated Tyler Darouse, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles one, FHS’ Graham Roth and Graham Daniels defeated PJP’s Luie Martinez and Blake Everard, 6-0, 6-0.
In double two, FHS’ Justin Magrath and Nick Roman defeated Joseph Ammond and Alex Maurin, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.
In doubles three, PJP’s Ross Armond and John?Babin defeated FHS’ Russell Simmons and Joseph Kim, 6-2, 6-3.
GIRLS
In singles one, FHS’ Francesca Sendar defeated PJP’s Kristn Macke, 6-0, 6-0.
In singles two, PJP’s Kristen Calamari defeated FHS’ Raquel Rodriguez, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles one, PJP’s Elizabeth Calmari and Hannan Malus defeated FHS’ Jenn Spiess and Taylor White, 7-5, 6-7, 10-8.
In doubles two, PJP’s Monica Jenson and MeMe DeLucca defeated FHS’ Emily Poulliard and Brocke Pendergast, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6.
In doubles three, PJP’s Sam Tatum and Lizzy Favre defeated FHS’ Hannah Gaudet and Cristel Joseph, 6-3, 6-1.
