Bob AllredBob Harold Allred, 78, a resident of Ponchatoula, La, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, La.  He was born February 14, 1939 in Brookhaven, Ms. and at an early age his family moved to Slidell.

He was preceded in death by his father, Benton Morris Allred and his mother, Ruth Fauver Allred of Slidell, La. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy Blount Allred; his sister Hilda Allred and her husband Roy Ageloff of Scottsdale, Az,; his niece Shana Allred Ageloff Kupetz and her husband Joshua; their children, Edith and Oscar of Annarbor, Mi; his aunt and uncle Ruby Fauver Henderson and Dennis Fauver of Slidell; his sister-in-law Mary Lou Blount Harrington of Georgetown, Tx,; her children Jason Harrington of Lago Vista, Tx, Janna Harrington Turner and husband Sean of Pflugerville, Tx,; great-nieces Sophia and Olivia Harrington; great-nephew Jaxson Harrington; sister-in-law Ginny Blount Fern and her husband Gene of Georgetown, Tx.; and niece Ashley Fern of Dallas, Tx. 

Bob earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and Master’s plus 30 hours at Southeastern Louisiana University. He taught at the Junior High level in St. Tammany Parish for seven years before moving to the now-closed Perrin Junior High in Ponchatoula, La. At Perrin Junior High he taught social studies and science for 10 years. He was Assistant Principal for 10 years and retired in 1995 after serving eight years as principal. 

He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa International Education Partnership, Louisiana Teachers Retirement Association and past member of the Strawberry Festival Board and the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula.  A visitation will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 5:00 pm -8:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula and on the day of the memorial service beginning at 1:00 pm continuing until service time. 



Patricia BurnsPatricia Gurtner Byrnes, age 81 of Slidell, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017.

She was the wife of the late Robert Jeff Byrnes, Sr.; mother of Robert J. Byrnes, Jr. (Lanie), the late Patrick R. Byrnes, Annette Byrnes (John) and Jenny McGathy (Bob); and daughter of the late Conrad Gurtner,Sr. and Mable Gurtner

Also, sister of Conrad Gurtner, Jr. Eugene Gurtner, Gloria Gurtner, Tommy Gurtner and Ronald Gurtner; and survived by four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Patricia was a native of New Orleans.

Funeral services were held at Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell, on Friday, April 28, 2017. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.


Pamela PridgenPamela Cox Pridgen, age 66, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017.

She was the mother of Traci Fernandez (Roger) and Jennifer Pridgen Gurtner (Tony; longtime companion of Gary Myrick; daughter of Robert Cox and the late Jean Lambert Cox Bonnell; and step-daughter of Barbara Cox and the late Harvey Bonnell.

Also, sister of Linda Spells (Virgil), Darrell Cox (Cindy), Bobby Cox (Jessie) and the late Stephanie Butterfield; and survived by five grandchildren, Zachary and Zoe Fernandez, Cameron, Brayden and Kelsi Gurtner; and two great grandchildren, Bella Thonn and Aubree Fernandez.

A native of Pontchatoula and a resident of New Orleans for many years, she had been a resident of Biloxi, MS., for over five years.

Funeral services were held at Honaker Funeral Home on May 1




Sarah NewmanSarah Ann Newman, age 36, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017 in Slidell.

She was 36 years of age.

She attended Slidell High and graduated from Delgado Community College in 2005 and worked as a Quality Control Engineer at the Lockheed Martin Corporation contributing to the successful completion the External Tank, Orion spacecraft and various satellites.

She is survived by her brother Seth Newman, her cousin Emily Decker, her father Edward Newman, her mother Cathy Decker Newman Graybeal, and her stepfather Rich Graybeal.

A Celebration of Life was held at the Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell.



James Albert Hamilton, age 92 of Slidell, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017.

He was the husband of the late Dorothy P. Hamilton; father of DeLane H. Jung (Michael), James L. Hamilton (Daniel) and the late Steven L. Hamilton; and son of the late Albert G. Hamilton and Lillie Bayliss Hamilton.

Also, brother of the late Louise McClendon, Thomas C. Hamilton, Anita Faulk and Ann Robertson; and survived by five grandchildren, Elizabeth Capdepon, Julia Colvin, Victoria Jones, Alexandra Jung, Steven Jung; and two great-grandchildren: Evelyn Colvin, Emma Grace Jones, and the late Brody Jones.

He was a native of Jackson, TN., and a U.S. Navy World War II veteran.

Funeral services were held on May 2 at graveside at Forest Park Cemetery, Shreveport.
