Melvin Bert Jeffrey Sr., of Pearl River, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011.
He was 82 years old.
He was the husband of the late Rosemary Galloway Jeffrey; father of Julie Jeffrey Champagne and Melvin Bert Jeffrey Jr.; father-in-law of Jill Russell Jeffrey and the late Charles R. Champagne; and brother of the late Noel Jeffrey.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Lauryn, Landon and Laikyn Jeffrey, Chas and Ricky Champagne.
Jeffrey was a native of New Orleans, and a longtime resident of Pearl River. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War at Ft. Benning, Ga., as a Staff Sargent in the air-crash rescue unit from 1948 until 1952 and then worked for New Orleans Public Service for 25 years.
Visitation was held at Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell on Dec. 28.

Lois Jean Carpenter Stephenson, a retired St. Tammany Parish teacher and counselor, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at her residence in Slidell.
She was 82 years old.
Stephenson was born in Scott City, Kansas and graduated high school in Vona, Colorado. She lived in Slidell since 1964 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a number of professional groups. She earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University and also attended UNO and USM.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald Lane and Jeffrey Lee Stephenson; daughter-in-law, Darlene; her family, Stewart, David Tiffany, Stuie, Cooper and Logan; and three sisters, Georgia Friski, Maxine Loopstra and Doris Beardsley.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Katie Lynn Peluso, Keri Walker, Noel Stephenson, Reuben Stephenson and Brittany Stephenson; and four great-grandchildren, Isabella, Caden, Logan and Charlotte.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cleve and Elsie Carpenter; two brothers, two sisters, her husband, Gerald D.; and a son, Lynn.
In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to the St. Tammany Teachers Scholarship fund or the First United Methodist Church in Slidell.

Willie Edward Yates II, of Slidell, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011.
He was 54 years old.
He was the husband of Catherine East Yates; father of John Blackwell, Brian Blackwell, Elizabeth Adams and Sarah Blackmon; and brother of Carolyn Kail, Ed Crosby, Brenda Ard, George Yates, Ann Dean, Johnny Yates, Donnie Yates and the late Man Crosby.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial services at The Crossing Church, 64431 Highway 41, Pearl River, La. on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m.

Frank N. Serio, of Slidell, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, in Slidell.
He was 78 years old.
He was the husband of Louise Serio for the past 58 years; father of Diane Smith, Roslyn Hurstell and Janet Jones; son of the late Sam and Mary Serio; and brother of the late J.C. Serio, Marion Klein, Anthony Serio and Clara Brownfield.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, Chad Smith, Kelly Smith, Katy Loth and Alexis Hurstell; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Loth and Shelby Smith.
Serio was a native of New Orleans, a former longtime resident of Arabi, La., Picayune, Ms. and a resident of Slidell since 2011. Serio served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict; he was a former Route Salesman for Goldseal Dairy of New Orleans.
Serio was a former parishioner of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Chalmette.
A funeral mass was held at Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell on Dec. 27.

Nellie Crawford Samrow, a native and lifelong resident of Slidell, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011.
She was 83 years old.
She was the wife for the past 64 years to Tony Samrow.
She was the mother of Toni Marie Lewis, Keith Samrow, Bobbie Samrow and Claudette Eberly.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Pearl Welch Crawford Brister and Morris Alonzo Crawford; siblings, Tommy, Dick Crawford, Hilda Rist, Thelma Bennett and Floristine Crawford.
She was the grandmother of Angel Cross, Amy Gochenour, Scott McKinnis, Steven Samrow, Heather Schilling, Denise Gordon, Tarzan Treadway, Jon and Corey Eberly and the late Eric Treadway; great-grandmother of Travis Allen, Kandace Smith, P.J. Cross, Amos Tambunga, Jada Gochenour, Layla McKinnis, Steven and Regan Samrow, Tyler and Logan Schilling, Nathan Gordon, Britney Giglio, Kayla Treadway, Luci and Griffin Eberly; and the great-great-grandmother of Arianna Smith.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell on Friday, Dec. 30 at 11 a.m.
Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Friday after 9 a.m. until funeral time.

Ralph R. Verges, of Slidell, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, in Slidell.
He was 63 years old
He was the husband of Gloria Ann Verges; father of Jason M. Verges; son of Edna Verges Majouie and the late Emile J. Verges Sr.; and brother of Emile Verges Jr., Cynthia DuVoisin and Marion Bickenbach.
A native of New Orleans, and a resident of Slidell since 1983, Verges was a U.S. Navy veteran (Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class), and was employed with Cooper T. Smith Mooring for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Slidell Racing Pigeon Club.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1050 Robert Blvd., in Slidell, on Friday, Dec. 30 at noon.
Friends may visit at the church on Friday beginning at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Alvin Jules Parsons Sr., of Pearl River, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011.
He was 79 years old.
Parsons was a proud Marine who fought in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Reynolds Parsons; three sons, Mark Parsons, Jules Martin and Timothy Martin; and two daughters, Joyce Parsons and Sandra Parsons. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Lillian Parsons; and one son, Alvin Parsons Jr.
There will be a graveside service at At Roch 1 in New Orleans on Mon., Jan. 2 at 1 p.m.
Ernest Clement Abadie Jr. passed away at his home with his daughter and friends on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011.
He was 87 years old.
Abadie was a native of New Orleans where he resided until Katrina. Since then he resided in Slidell with his daughter, Bonnie, and friends Lorraine and Casey.
He was the husband of the late Rosemary Kramer Abadie; father to Bonnie Abadie; godfather to Michael Sewell; Paw Paw to Scarlett Rayne Catanese and Knoxlee Michael Catanese; and the son of the late Ernest C. Abadie Sr. and Viola Kastner Abadie.
He was the brother to the late Amelia (Nan) Cowen.
Abadie graduated from St. Aloysius High School, enlisted to serve his country in the U. S. Navy/Marines during WWII, is a receiving Purple Heart and other medals. Upon returning home he was employed by T.T.T. Steamship Co. for 38 years after which he worked at Helm Paint & Supply. He was a member and served as commander of the American Legion Post 285 (Loo Wag Ran). He enjoyed volunteering with his American Legion friends for high school baseball games. He was a baseball player in AAA league.
A funeral mass was held at Lake Lawn Metairie Home on Dec. 15.
