SLIDELL — Several track and field high school athletes placed at the state meets, but no one did as well as Gabrielle Jennings from First Baptist.
Jennings won three state titles in the Class C meet. She took first place in the 800 meter, 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter. She is in eighth grade and has a total of 19 state titles already.
“I?wasn’t feeling well physically, but I just wanted to get points for our team because we’ve been trying for three years to win a team state title,”?Jennings said.
FBCS did win the girls state title this year, and it came just in time as senior Sarah Petty is a senior and usually gets about 30 team points a meet. Other seniors captured points for the Lady Eagles as well.
Petty won two second place and a first place; and Madelyn Jennings, Gabrielle’s sister, won two second place awards.
