SLIDELL — The Inner Wheel organization of Slidell has made a pretty good team with the local family of Rob and Lisa Braniff.
The Braniff’s felt led by God several years ago to adopt a special needs orphan from China, bringing Isabella “Izzy” Braniff home at the age of 3 to join their family.
Izzy was born with a hole in her heart and required surgery to correct the problem, but it didn’t stop the Braniffs from adopting her from the Hidden Treasures Home, a special needs orphanage in Fuzhou, China.
Since that time, the Braniffs have added Marianna, “Mari” Braniff, to their family, who was born without one leg and with a birth defect to her right hand. They are currently awaiting 2-year-old Josiah Jian Guo, who will become their third adopted child from China with special needs.
While the Braniffs obviously have big hearts to take on such challenges, they have been supported by the Inner Wheel group of Slidell, a branch of the Rotary Club. The Slidell Club purchased a myoelectric hand and prosthetic leg for Mari.
Izzy is also living a very normal life now, and Josiah will soon join the family with special needs that have not been revealed to the Braniffs yet.
“This is what we feel God is leading us to do, but helping these children in this way couldn’t happen without the Inner Wheel group,” Rob said.
The club recently held a fundraising walk at Camp Salmen, to help children who need prosthetic limbs.
