SLIDELL — How many kids grow up wishing they could meet Kobe Bryant?
Well, not only will Salmen High School graduate Chris Duhon be meeting Bryant this week, but he will also wear the same team jersey as him. Duhon was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers last week as part of the three-player trade, which included Dwight Howard.
Duhon, who had an outstanding high school career here in Slidell, went on to play college basketball for Duke University where he was an All-American. After graduating college, he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls. Since then he’s played for the New York Knicks and most recently the Orlando Magic.
When Duhon came to New Orleans last season to play against the Hornets, he brought several players from the Magic to a Salmen High basketball game. The Salmen crowd went wild when Duhon, along with players like Howard and Jameer Nelson, walked through the doors.
There had been talk all summer about Howard being traded, and when a deal finally went through, Duhon was part of the trade, heading off to Los Angeles for his new home.
